Carotico-cavernous Sinus Fistula: Duplex Doppler Findings
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Carotico cavernous sinus fistula (CCF) is an abnormal communication between the carotid artery and the cavernous sinus and is classified angiographically as dural or direct. Spontaneous CCF is a dural arterio-venous fistula at the cavernous sinus which is different from traumatic CCF or CCF associated with a ruptured aneurysm at the cavernous internal carotid artery. Cerebral angiography is required in order to differentiate these conditions (1,2) .We report a case of traumatic CCF, in which Doppler sonographic evaluation of the superior ophthalmic vein (SOV) corresponded with that of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA).

Diffusion restriction in thrombosed superior ophthalmic veins: two cases of diverse etiology and literature review.
Thrombosis of superior ophthalmic veins (SOV) is a well known entity occurring secondary to varied etiologies. We describe diffusion restriction in thrombosed SOV in two cases of different etiologies- bilateral involvement in a patient with septic cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) and another where embolisation of an indirect carotico-cavernous fistula (CCF) resulted in complete SOV thrombosis a...
متن کاملMechanisms of presentation of carotico-cavernous fistulae.
The clinical features of carotico-cavernous fistulae are too well known for detailed description to be necessary. The proptosis, chemosis, venous engorgement in and around the orbit, oculomotor palsy, pulsation of the globe, and the subjective and objective bruit over the orbit and forehead are familiar to all. It is perhaps not always appreciated that the bruit may, on occasions, precede the a...
متن کاملDural carotico-cavernous fistula: pre and postembolization appearances of bone-subtracted CT angiography.
Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is the best method of evaluating carotid cavernous fistulas (CCF). DSA, however, has the disadvantage of being an invasive procedure. Computerized tomography (CT) angiography which is noninvasive, have been shown to provide more information about the size and location of fistulas. As a new method, Bone-Subtraction CT Angiography (BSCTA), than conventional C...

We describe the case of a patient with carotico-cavernous fistula who had botulinum toxin A to induce a protective ptosis 4.5 days before death. The levator palpebrae superioris muscle from both sides and the superior rectus muscle from the injected side were obtained for examination. The preserved samples were stained with haematoxylin and eosin, Martius scarlet blue, Glees, S100, dehydrogenas...
متن کاملImaging diagnosis of dural and direct cavernous carotid fistulae*
Arteriovenous fistulae of the cavernous sinus are rare and difficult to diagnose. They are classified into dural cavernous sinus fistulae or direct carotid-cavernous fistulae. Despite the similarity of symptoms between both types, a precise diagnosis is essential since the treatment is specific for each type of fistula. Imaging findings are remarkably similar in both dural cavernous sinus fistu...
